Committee Details

Committee on the Ombudsman, the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission and the Crime Commission

Committees of the 56th Parliament (2015 - 2019) have ended. Committees of the next Parliament will be appointed by the Houses in due course.

 

 

The Committee’s functions relate to the following agencies:

  • NSW Ombudsman (including the Child Death Review Team)
  • Law Enforcement Conduct Commission
  • NSW Crime Commission (including the Commission’s Management Committee)
  • Information Commissioner
  • Privacy Commissioner
  • Inspector of the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission
  • Inspector of Custodial Services.


The Committee reviews the performance of these agencies, examines their annual and other reports, and reports to Parliament on matters relating to their functions and annual and other reports.

The Committee does not have the power to investigate particular conduct, or to reconsider the agencies’ decisions, findings or recommendations about particular complaints or investigations.

The Committee’s functions can be found in various pieces of NSW legislation, for example, the Ombudsman Act 1974, the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission Act 2016 and the Crime Commission Act 2012.
