The prohibition on the publication of names of children involved in criminal proceedings

The Standing Committee on Law and Justice has accepted terms of reference regarding whether the current prohibition on the publication and broadcasting of names of children in criminal proceedings, under section 11 of the Children (Criminal Proceedings) Act 1987 (NSW), is still valid and achieving its objectives. The Committee invites public participation in the inquiry process. Written submissions addressing the inquiry terms of reference can be emailed, faxed or mailed to the committee secretariat. The terms of reference for the inquiry were referred by the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, the Hon John Hatzistergos MLC. The Committee has completed its inquiry and its report was tabled on 21 April 2008. The Government's response to the report has been received.
