Assisted to organise the Tailor's Union, president in 1904, and amalgamation to form the Federated Clothing and Allied Trades Union in 1922 (Amalgamated Clothing and Allied Trades Union of Australia from 1924), New South Wales secretary from 1923 until 1955; member of executive of the Trades and Labor Council (TLC) and Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU); active in early closing movement
