Qualifications, occupations and interests
Salesman and land agent. Educated at Hailsham Primary School. Parents moved to Parish of Herstmonceux in 1857 where he worked on the family farm. Salesman with corn and seed merchant at Hastings. In 1860 became Manager. Arrived in Sydney on 24 May 1868. Accountant to W.C Renwick until 1879 and then became a land agent speculating successfully in land and properties. Member of the syndicate which made Canterbury Park racecourse out of scrub. Secretary until 1924. Recreational interests include racehorses, fishing, cricket and other sporting clubs.
