Grazier and Pastoralist. Educated to primary level in Rutherglen, Scotland. Arrived in South Australia with parents and brothers in 1854. Family settled near Gumeracha farming and making agricultural implements. Moved to New South Wales in 1867. Became pastoralists starting at Albury. By 1912 held stations near Inverell, Coleambally, Harden, Hay and Macquarie Fields. Strong supporter of Presbyterian Church.
