Arrived in New South Wales in 1853, employed by New England grazier as a shepherd; at age nineteen became an overseer and five years later became a manager of Trinkey Trinkey station near Coolah in the Liverpool Plains; purchased 100 acres in c.1871 near Glen Innes , extended to 1600 acres; foundation director of Glen Innes Co-operative Butter Company Limited; director of Glen Innes Pastures Protection Board 1887-1928, chairman 1917-1919; president of Local Agricultural Society in 1888; executive member of Farmers and Settlers' Association 1901-1914, vice president 1904-1909, 1911-1914; director of Land Newspaper 1911-1914.
