Qualifications, occupations and interests
Entrepreneur and newspaper proprietor; farmer; vigneron. Arrived in Victoria in 1857 and moved to New South Wales in 1861. Involved in mining and for some time owned a store. In 1872, he founded the 'Forbes and Parkes Gazette' editing it for some years and before sellling the business. Described as a farmer and vigneron, living at Parkes.

Personal
Son of Thomas Cooke, wheelwright, and his wife Jane Cooke. Married Mary Ann Isabel Peacock on 19 August 1869 at Currajong, near Forbes, and had issue 9 children. Methodist funeral.
