Pastoralist. Educated at Mayners School, Bathurst, Calder House Newtown and Sydney College. Managed stations for father. Settled at Wallaroy near Bathurst. On his fathers death in 1870 inherited a large amount of freehold near Kelso and Condobolin, with adjoining leasehold. Built Leeholme at Kelso in 1872 and became a stud breeder of merinos, shorthorn cattle and fine racehorses. Foundation member of the Australian Jockey Club. Member of Executive from 1893 until 1912; Leading role in developing Randwick racecourse. Member of Bathurst Turf Club. Director of Bathurst District Hospital. Treasurer of Bathurst show for 3 years. President from 1872 until 1904. Patron from 1907 until death. President of Bathurst Agricultural, Horticultural and Pastoral Association 1872 until 1904. On Committee of New South Wales Sheepbreeders Association. Vice President from 1901 until 1912. Staunch Anglican.
