Commissioned as a Justice of the Peace in 1866. President of Albury District Hospital Board and the Agricultural Society and the Racing Club. Benefactor of St Thomas' Church, Petersham and Lewisham Hospital
Qualifications, occupations and interests
Station manager and flour miller. Educated at Windsor and Richmond. Country entrepreneur. At 14 joined brother James, manager of Momba station near the Snowy River. Managed other stations with his brother. Travelled to the Bendigo Diggings in 1852. Opened a store at Livingston Creek on Omeo Goldfield in 1853. With his brother leased the Tabletop station near Albury 1856 until 1859. Purchased Quat Quatta station on the Murray River for £15,000, and a few years later Yarra Yarra stn near Holbrook where they ran 6,000 cattle. Journeyed to Albury c. 1860; rented then purchased Fanny Ceres flour mill; also stock and station agent.
