Policeman and booking porter. Educated at boarding school. From 1840 discharged clerical duties. At a later time became a policeman and a booking porter. left England without his family in 1849. Arrived in New South Wales c.1853. Travelled to the goldfields. At a later time became a land and commercial agent, in 1876 being senior partner in firm of Hoskings and Blomfield. Became an extreme radical in debates of late 1850's and early 1860's.
