Merchant. Arrived in Sydney c.1818 with father. Educated under Isaac Wood, and under W.T Cape and Reverend J.D Lang. On leaving school spent 11 years with merchant firm Jones & Walker, in which father was a partner. Commenced own business as a merchant. By 1850s was a local Director for a London Chartered Bank of Australia and agent for London and Oriental Steam Transit Insurance Company. Agent for Pacific & Orient Line. Committee member of Chamber of Commerce.
