Civil official; parliamentary officer. Police Magistrate at Patrick's Plains from 22 May 1831 to 8 August 1838. Held a pastoral property near Wellington. Settled in Parramatta in 1852. Serjeant-at-Arms of the Legislative Assembly from 28 June 1860 to 6 May 1873.
Military Service
Commissioned into the 17th Regiment in 1830; sold out after the Regiment came to Sydney in 1831.

The exact date of his birth is not known (1 January is placed there for database reasons). Son of Henry Finch. Married Emily Elizabeth Wilson on 4 June 1837 at Sydney. The declaration of qualifications attached to his oath of allegiance (tabled in the Legislative Council on 10 May 1853) stated that he owned estates of several thousand acres in extent in the County of Wellington and houses, cottages and town allotments in Parramatta.
