Educated at Sydney High School and Sydney Teacher's College from 1932 until 1933; taught at Clovelly from 1935 until 1937, at Paddington from 1937 until 1938, studying part time at University of Sydney., B.Ec (1938); on graduation joined economics department of Bank of New South Wales, research officer; on outbreak of war worked for Minister of Munitions, then Civilian Personnel Officer for Australia with United States Army; became a chartered accountant, Fellow of Australian Society of Accountants; chairman and managing director of Mineral Deposits Pty Ltd; foundation member of Paddington Society; councillor of Macquarie University from 1965 until 1968; member of Royal New South Wales Institution for Deaf and Blind Children; athlete and cricketer, played for New South Wales in Sheffield Shield, secretary of Paddington District Cricket Club for c.20 years, member of New South Wales Cricket Association, life member in 1967, trustee of Sydney Cricket Ground.
