Educated at Bourke Street Superior public school, Goulburn; various positions while main interest was amateur cycling and Rugby League; Australian amateur cycling champion in 1926; joined Prison Department in 1931, warder of Goulburn Gaol until 1941; moved to Queanbeyan after election; secretary of Goulburn Rugby Football League 1931 - 1941, helped to establish country Rugby League, treasurer 1934 - 1938; trustee of Kosciusko State Park; foundation member and director of Queanbeyan Leagues Club.
