Educated at St Joseph's College, Hunters Hill and Solicitors Admission Board (SAB); spent a short time on the land before being articled to Thomas Hogan, solicitor, Moree, and on his death to partner, Frederick Charles Webb; admitted as a solicitor in 1925, entered partnership with Webb from which he retired in 1967.
