Qualifications, occupations and interests
Lawyer (Barrister). Educated at St Mary's Cathedral School and the school of Reverend Thomas Aitken, Ryde. Entered service of Commercial Banking Company of Sydney in 1860. Called to the Bar on 25 September 1875; several times was acting Supreme Court Judge. Queens Counsel in 1896; New South Wales District Court Judge from March 1900. From June 1905 President of Arbitration Court; from April 1908 was a Judge of Industrial Court. Sole Commissioner for consolidating statute law of New South Wales in 1896. Fellow of St Johns College, University of Sydney.

Son of Jabez King Heydon, journeyman printer, and his wife Sophia Hayes. Married (1) Miriam Josepha Makinson (died 1896), daughter of the Rev. T. C. Makinson, on 8 September 1880, and had issue, 2 sons. Married (2) Sybil Russell in 1909. Roman Catholic. His brother, Louis Francis Heydon, was a Member of the Legislative Assembly and also a Member of the Legislative Council.
