Qualifications, occupations and interests
Colonel of the 11th Regiment of Foot, Commanding Her Majesty's Land Forces in New South Wales when appointed to the Legislative Council.
Military Service
Commissioned as an ensign on 30 September 1813 in 59th (2nd Nottinghamshire) regiment of Foot. In June 1815 served with 2nd Battalion and 59th Foot at Waterloo and the occupation of Paris. In 1816 the 2nd Battalion was disbanded and he was transferred to the 11th Regiment of Foot as a Colonel and an administrator of the colony in the Governor's absence. In 1817 in August was promoted as a Lieutenant and on 1 April 1824 became a captain. Another promotion on 28 June 1838 was to Major. and again on 27 June 1845 to a Lieutenant Colonel. In 1854 became a Colonel. Left New South Wales when his regiment departed in late 1857. In 1867 on 20 January became a Colonel of 64th (2nd Staffodshire) regiment of Foot.
