Australian Labor Party (ALP). Joined in 1963. Served on the State executive and State administrative committees including Presidency of the Woman's Committee. First woman to become Government Whip, a position she held from 1976 until her retirement in 1981. She was State secretary and later State president of the New South Wales Labor Women's Committee, Federal president of Labor Women and delegate to the ALP Federal conference 1965 - 1971.

Member of the Zoological Parks Trust (1988 - 1990), the Board of Health (1958 - 1965), the Housing Commission (1963 - 1966), the Science Foundation (Sydney University) (1966 - 1968), the Local Government Boundaries Commission (Chairman) (1981 - 1988), and the Edina Foundation.

Married to Keith Anderson, who was also a Member of the Legislative Assembly (1961 - 1962), as was her son Peter Anderson (Member of the Legislative Assembly 1978 - 1995).
