Background Paper 02/1996 by Antony Green

This paper contains a summary of the results of the 1995 election for 21 members of the New South Wales Legislative Council. It is based on the election statistics published by the NSW Electoral Commissioner, though the data has been summarized and reordered to provide more information on the results.

Section 1 summarizes the results of the election, and details the progress of the count during the distribution of preferences.

Section 2 lists the Legislative Council results for each Legislative Assembly electorate. Tables provide the primary votes and primary percentage vote received by each party group.

Section 3 breaks down the state-wide vote for each party group by electorate, providing tables of votes recorded in each electorate, ordered by the size of the percentage vote received.

Section 4 provides summary tables comparing the vote in the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council.
