Transport and Infrastructure Committee

The Committee on Transport and Infrastructure has tabled its report titled Commuter Car Parking in NSW. The report explores the commuter car parking experience in NSW, and what steps could be taken to improve it.

Among the Committee's key recommendations is the expansion of Transport for NSW's Park&Ride trial, which uses the Opal card to ensure that free parking is only available for commuters accessing public transport.

Other recommendations in the report include:

  • Greater Sydney Parking Guideline include guidelines for commuter car parking after consultation with local government
  • Opal-accessible bike sheds be provided at more transport hubs
  • Further research on commuter car parking be undertaken by Transport for NSW
  • Development of an awareness campaign, highlighting various options for passengers to travel to transport interchanges

The New South Wales Government has six months in which to respond to the Committee's recommendations.
