993 - Regional Transport and Roads - FIXING COUNTRY RAIL

(1) Can the Minister commit to the continuation of the Fixing Country Rail Program?

(2) On a previous occasion the Minister provided the answer: “The State and Federal governments are currently reviewing programs in light of the former Liberal-National government’s financial mismanagement and history of cost overruns. Can the Minister please explain:

(a) the answer given?

(b) how the Fixing Country Rail program comes under the Federal Governments' review?

(3) Are the deeds for the Gilgandra to Coonamble project under review?

(4) Where have the funds for Fixing Country Rail gone given Restart NSW money has been repurposed?

(5) Why has the Main West Bi-Directional Signalling upgrade been delayed until mid 2026?

Answer -

I am advised

The budget will be delivered on Tuesday 19 September and a comprehensive expenditure review is giving us a line by-line analysis of what needs to be done to repair the damage caused by the Liberals and Nationals 12 years in Government.

The Minns Labor Government is now making the careful and necessary decisions to address the holes left in the budget by the former government to ensure we fund the essential services people rely on.

To date $273 million has been allocated to 53 projects in the Fixing Country Rail program. $127 million remains in the Fixing Country Rail Restart NSW reservation and is currently unallocated.

Detailed design is underway and planning for construction has begun for the Gilgandra to Coonamble project.

Detailed design works for Main West Bi–Directional Signalling upgrade have commenced. The project is expected to be completed in mid-2026.
