Transport for NSW is committed to providing safer end-to-end journeys for the people of NSW, including prioritising the development of community-informed transport strategies and policies to improve the safety of commuters, and their broader communities.
The NSW Government's response to the Parliamentary Inquiry into the Transport Technology Sector included a commitment by Transport for NSW to improve women’s safety on the NSW public transport network while building networks across the public sector, with advocacy groups and other key stakeholders to enable open collaboration and co-design in women’s safety.
Transport for NSW is progressing a range of strategies to understand the independent, lived experience of commuters relating to women’s safety including their customer service experience, infrastructure development and policy matters. It is anticipated this work will ultimately seek to consult with a diverse range of stakeholders such as women’s advocacy groups and community representatives.
Collaboration with other government agencies is already in progress through initiatives such as the Women’s Safety Charter, or through participation in programs such as the Purple Flag, which is a key initiative of the NSW Government’s 24-hour Economy strategy.
Transport for NSW is currently promoting safe movement for women and girls on and around public transport and public spaces, including our streets, as part of the Safer Cities program.
