(c) Has Transport for NSW completed any costings for this proposal?

Answer -

I am advised

The policy was costed by the Parliamentary Budget Office prior to the 2023 State Election and that costing is publicly available.

Sydney Trains and Transport for NSW are currently collaborating on planning for the future fleet. This planning includes local industry and stakeholder engagement to inform a business case for Government consideration.

The former Liberal-National government went to great efforts to undermine local manufacturing, which included procuring heavy rail rolling stock from China and South Korea, metro rolling stock from India, light rail rolling stock from France and Spain and ferries from China and Indonesia.

There have been significant budget blow outs on overseas projects commissioned by the former Liberal-National government, and much of the rolling stock has required significant rectification work to clear defects.
