525 - Regional Transport and Roads - MARIYUNG FLEET ENTERING SERVICE WESTERN LINE

Farraway, Sam to the Minister for Jobs and Tourism, Special Minister of State, Minister for Roads, Minister for the Arts, and Minister for Music and the Night-time Economy representing the Minister for Regional Transport and Roads

(1) In what month in 2023 will the Mariyung fleet be in service on the Western line?

Answer -

I am advised

Poor management by the former Liberal-National government led to significant time and cost over runs on the overseas built regional rail fleet. The Spanish-built Regional Rail Fleet is publicly reported to be more than three years late and more than $1 billion over budget, under the previous government. The Korean-built Mariyung Fleet was due to enter service in late 2019. It was reported under the previous government that cost overruns could exceed $1 billion.

A timeline for their delivery will be confirmed once the testing and assurance phase of the rollingstock is complete.
