MOBILE PHONE CHARGING STATIONS POLICY IMPLEMENTATION

(1) In the submission to the Parliamentary Budget Office, NSW Labor committed to implementing mobile phone charging stations across the New South Wales rail network, can the Minister please advise:

(a) When this policy will be implemented?

(b) Does this policy include Regional New South Wales?

(c) At how many train stations and what locations will there be mobile phone charging stations?

(d) How many individual phones will be able to be charged at a single time?

(e) What types of phones will be compatible with the charging stations?

 

Answer -

I am advised

(1)

(a) A Mobile Phone Charging Test and Trial is currently underway with charging options to become available at two Sydney train stations by September 2023. This trial will then be evaluated to ensure it meets passenger requirements.

(b) This trial includes Greater Sydney only.

(c) The trial will be available at two Sydney train stations by September 2023. Full roll out will be to 15 of Sydneys busiest interchanges.

(i) Bankstown, Blacktown, Bondi Junction, Campbelltown, Chatswood, Central, Epping, Hurstville, Lidcombe, Liverpool, Parramatta, Penrith, Strathfield, Town Hall, Wynard.

(d) The specifications of the charging solutions will be determined using the following requirements:

  • minimal required intervention of station staff
  • number of devices able to be charged simultaneously.
  • ongoing maintenance of the unit
  • warranty period
  • ease of use
  • device compatibility
  • vandalism protection.

(e) It is anticipated that the current technology available can charge android and iPhones (8 and above).
