NEW INTERCITY FLEET

(1) Can the Minister make available any updates to the testing of the Intercity Fleet?

(2) Can the Minister provide a date as to when the Intercity Fleet will be operational?

(3) Can the Minister list any issues with the intercity fleet during testing?

(4) Since 28 March 2023, has the Rail, Tram and Bus Union written, met or called the Minister regarding the Intercity Fleet?

(5) Will the minister install fridges on the new intercity fleet trains?

(6) When operational:

(a) How many guards will be on each intercity fleet per trip?

(i) List their duties and legal responsibilities?

(b) How many guards will be on each intercity fleet trip during 6:00pm - 5.00am?

(i) List their duties and legal responsibilities?

(1) to (3)

Testing of the new trains is underway. Transport for NSW will continue working with the Rail, Tram, and Bus Union, and the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator to implement an operating model that will allow the trains to enter passenger service in 2024.

(4) The Minister regularly engages with unions as important representatives of our workforce.

(5) Fridges are not included on the new Mariyung fleet.

(6)  The Mariyung fleet will operate with a driver, and guard on board each train in full revenue services. Train Guards are responsible for the safety of our customers and train operations. Train Guards provide customer service and physical assistance, communicate service information via public announcements and answering enquiries, and are trained to handle critical incidents or emergency situations.
