941 - Transport and Roads - ARMIDALE REGION - REFUGEES

Mookhey, Daniel to the Special Minister of State, Minister for the Public Service and Employee Relations, Aboriginal Affairs, and the Arts, Vice-President of the Executive Council representing the Minister for Transport and Roads

(1) What support is being provided to the Armidale region following the settlement of 609 refugees in terms of:

(a) Local community transport, particularly between healthcare services?

(b) Long distance travel to healthcare hubs such as Tamworth and Newcastle?

(c) Translated transport information, including safety information, for transport providers and customers?

I am advised:

This question was asked of the Minister for Transport and Roads, but has been referred to me, Minister for Regional Transport and Roads, for response.

(1) Transport for New South Wales provides support to refugee groups through the Community Transport Program and the Transport Access Regional Partnerships Grants Program.

(a) The Community Transport Program assists people who are transport disadvantaged owing to physical, social, cultural and/or geographic factors, by providing local and regional transport to essential services, including health/medical appointments, shopping, and social access. Tablelands Community Transport is the local Community Transport Service Provider in Armidale.

(b) The Transport Access Regional Partnerships Grants Program has supported the Armidale refugees by providing a grant of $19,600 to Tablelands Community Transport to assist with travel to medical appointments, many of which are long distance.

(c) Transport for NSW has distributed Community Transport brochures in 11 languages. These brochures provide information on the services available, eligibility criteria and how to find local Community Transport service providers.
