Answer -

The Department of Education uses demountable buildings to manage changing enrolment patterns; provide accommodation to meet emergency needs arising from incidents such as fires, storms or flooding; and provide temporary accommodation needs as a result of capital works and maintenance projects.

The use of demountables allows the department to be highly responsive to changing needs in schools across the State. All demountable classrooms are air-conditioned and receive regular maintenance.

The department constantly monitors the use of demountables. Where a long term need for additional school accommodation is established and funding is available, this is provided by expanding existing schools and⁄or building new schools as necessary.
