  1. Will the Government make changes to Opal Fares in 2017? If so, when?
  2. Will the Government increase the Average Adult weekly fare by 13 per cent as recommended by IPART?

Answer -

I am advised:

As you would be aware, during the 16 years that Labor were in Government, fares went up 87 per cent. Since Opal's introduction in 2012, Opal fares have not, on average, risen above CPI.

Opal card fares have not increased on trains and ferries since January 2015 and on buses and light rail since 2014.

The NSW Government has frozen fares for Opal card customers until July 2017 and has not made a final decision about the future of Opal fares.
