  1. What assistance has been provided to those affected by drought in Brewarrina Shire?
  2. What representations have been made to the Commonwealth regarding assistance for farmers affected by drought in Brewarrina Shire?
Answer -
  1. The NSW and Commonwealth governments provide support in NSW in accordance with the Intergovernmental Agreement on National Drought Program Reform (IGA) which was signed by all jurisdictions in May 2013.
    In February 2015 the NSW Government introduced the NSW Drought Strategy, aligning to the IGA, which introduced a range of initiatives available to all farmers including those in Brewarrina.
    Since the beginning of 2015, over $900,000 in concessional loans and $3,100 in Transport subsidies for Animal Welfare purposes have been approved in the Brewarrina Shire.
  2. The Australian Government also provides significant assistance under the Agreement across NSW. This includes concessional loans which are administered by the NSW Rural Assistance Authority on their behalf. For the same period, the value of approved commonwealth concessional loans for drought assistance in the Brewarrina Shire was $2.42 million.
