- to (7) While the Menindee Lakes project has been modelled by the
Murray-Darling Basin Authority, the project is still in its initial stages.
Detailed project design is currently underway.
The regulatory approval
process for the project includes explicit consideration of Aboriginal heritage
impacts and provisions for mitigation where required. There will also be an
Aboriginal advisory group included in the governance for the project, to ensure
that Aboriginal cultural impacts are considered. The Menindee Lakes project
will address key environmental, social, and cultural concerns, including the
impact on far west tourism, the dollar value of impacts on tourism,
recreational fishing, and the social and economic impacts of the proposed
project.
