Prior to an election, at the end of a normal four year term, the Governor usually prorogues both Houses of Parliament. This essentially brings the session of Parliament to an end. The prorogation of the 57th Parliament has been gazetted from Monday, 27 February 2023.
The effect of prorogation is that any business before the Houses ceases. So for example, business on the Notice Paper lapses and members are not able to submit questions on notice. Please be advised that all written questions with a due date that falls after prorogation will be published in a prorogation paper noting the answer is outstanding.
