Mandatory mulesing phase out by 2030

Petitioner: Ms Selma Burek-Celejewska | Member: Pearson, Mark | No. of Signatories: 2,832 | Date closed: 18/08/2022 | Status: Presented 21/09/2022
To the President and Members of the Legislative Council, the petitioners of New South Wales state that each year, over 10 million Australian lambs suffer from mulesing, the flesh around their backside cut off, often without pain relief. Mulesing is recognised globally as unnecessary cruelty, and though there are proven, effective alternatives, the Australian government and wool industry still accept it as the status quo. The petitioners request that the House mandate a phase out of mulesing, complete by 2030 and with an immediate mandate of pain relief for all invasive procedures on lambs including mulesing, tail docking and castration, and to work with the wool industry to create a transition plan away from mulesing.
