Scrutiny of the NSW Companion Animals Amendment (Puppy Farms) Bill 2021 is warranted

Petitioner: Dr Susanne Pedersen | Member: Banasiak, Mark | No. of Signatories: 147 | Date closed: 05/04/2022 | Status: Presented 10/05/2022
To the President and Members of the Legislative Council, the petitioners of New South Wales, state that the Companion Animals Amendment (Puppy Farms) Bill 2021 goes beyond the scope of a legislative framework intended to end puppy farming. The bill will lead to a scarcity in top-quality puppies which will not end puppy farms, but quite the contrary, further encourage puppy farming. The petitioners request that the House reject the bill. Legislative amendments must not be arbitrary or unfair. The petitioners call on the House to rigorously examine the proposals contained in the bill so as to avoid unintended consequences.
