Petitioner: Mrs Dianne Hardley | Member: Hurst, Emma | No. of Signatories: 1,778 | Date closed: 31/07/2023 | Status: Presented 01/08/2023
To the President and Members of the Legislative Council, the petitioners of New South Wales state that the recent brutal shootings of brumbies in KNP has shocked the community, deeply regarding these sentient animals. The shootings were undertaken on behalf of Government despite the fact more humane methods are available, including rehoming horses to sanctuaries and despite documented concerns about accuracy of brumby population . The petitioners request that the House call on the Government to (a) Immediately ban the killing of brumbies in Kosciuszko National Park.(b) cease trapping of brumbies in KNP while an independent count is undertaken, using a transparent method scrutinised by all stakeholders, followed by a review of the management plan.
