To the President and Members of the Legislative Council, the petitioners of New South Wales who are committed to preserving and protecting Aboriginal culture and heritage, state that we support the Community support for the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage (Culture is Identity) Bill 2022, as currently there are limited broad ranging protections for Aboriginal cultural heritage that ensure that Aboriginal people with legitimate cultural authority are leading the protection and preservation of ancient cultural sites for the benefit of all Australian people and future generations. The petitioners request that the House support the bill as this is consistent with the priority reform principles agreed by all levels of Government under the National Agreement on Closing the Gap, and which will put the protection and preservation of ancient cultural heritage in the hands of Aboriginal people.
