Permanent removal of shark meshing program from NSW beaches

Petitioner: Ms Jacquelene Pearson | Member: Faehrmann, Cate | No. of Signatories: 760 | Date closed: 04/07/2024 | Status: Presented 06/08/2024
To the President and Members of the Legislative Council, the petitioners of the Friends of Kurrawyba Reserve, Terrigal Haven state that the shark meshing program in NSW beaches traps and kills twice as many threatened and endangered species than it does the three types of sharks it is supposed to keep away from swimmers, as well as killing other bycatch. The petitioners request that the House permanently remove shark netting from NSW beaches.
