Rules for viewing documents

Rules for viewing documents

1. Access to view documents is by prior arrangement. Bookings must be made with the Table Office on 9230 2749 to ensure availability of the reading room and to avoid overcrowding.

2. The reading room is open for visitors to view documents on non-sitting days from 9.00 am to 4.45 pm. If it can be accommodated the reading room can be made available at certain times on sitting days, however priority is given to members and their staff.

3. Visitors are subject to Parliament’s Security Policy and conditions of entry, which includes being accompanied by staff or a member whilst in non-public areas of Parliament House.

4. Before examining documents all persons are required to sign a register. Signing the register also indicates an agreement to abide by these rules.

5. Due care is to be taken when viewing documents. Documents must remain in order and must not be removed from the room. Documents are to be returned to the box from which they were taken and in the order they were found. Documents and boxes must not be marked. If staples are removed in order to photocopy, documents must be re-stapled.

6. Documents may be photocopied for a small fee (see chart below). Please advise Table Office staff if you wish to photocopy documents so a record can be kept of the number of copies.

7. The door to the reading room must remain open.

8. No food or drink is to be brought into the reading room.

9. Conversations should be kept to a minimum and conducted quietly to avoid disturbing others.
