(1) What action has been taken since the targeted stakeholder consultation into the recommendations of the statutory review in 2022?

(2) What further work does the Government intend to do before implementing recommendations to:

(a) Expand the cover of occupancy agreements?

(b) Expand the scope of the act to cover more shared accommodation?

(c) Improve consumer protections?

(d) Improve fire safety?

(e) Reduce overcrowding?

(3) When does the Government plan to deliver the reforms recommended from the statutory review?

Answer -

The Report on the statutory review of the Boarding Houses Act 2012 (the Report) was tabled in NSW Parliament in August 2020. The previous government did not introduce legislation to implement the recommendations of the Report.

The NSW Government is committed to strengthening protections for residents in boarding houses and other shared accommodation. The Government is currently considering the recommendations of the statutory review of the Boarding Houses Act 2012.
