(1) How many K-9 units operate in Liverpool City Police Area Command?

(2) How many K-9 units operate in Sutherland Shire Police Area Command?

(3) Do any of the K-9 units that operate in Liverpool Police Area Command or Sutherland Police Area Command have fully qualified Cadaver dogs certified to Australian Standards?

(4) How many K-9 units in NSW have fully qualified Cadaver dogs certified to Australian Standards?

(5) How much does it cost to train a NSW police force dog to become a fully qualified Cadaver dog certified to Australian Standards?

(6) Who offers the canine training services to obtain certification to Australian Standards?

(7) Who regulates the Australian standards for certification of Cadaver dogs?

Answer -
NSW POLICE DOGS

(1 - 2) The Sydney metropolitan area is serviced by 54 Police dog teams that provide a timely response to Police Area Commands on a 24 hour/seven day per week basis. Dog units are not specifically aligned to Police Area Commands.

(3 - 4) There are currently four (4) police dogs accredited with cadaver detection capability. The requisite accreditation is in accordance with the Australia New Zealand Policing Advisory Agency (ANZPAA) Education and Training Guidelines relating to police dog handling. The NSW Police Force is not guided by Australian Standards.

 Cadaver dogs are not specifically aligned to Police Area Commands.

(5) It is not possible to establish a definitive cost to train a NSW Police Force dog in cadaver detection.

(6) The NSW Police Force provides all training of NSW Police Force cadaver detection dogs. Law enforcement dogs are not bound by Australian Standards AS 5350.1 :2022 and AS 5350.2:2022.

(7) The Australia New Zealand Policing Advisory Agency (ANZPAA) regulates the ANZPAA Education and Training Guidelines that provide for the requisite accreditation of police dogs with cadaver detection capability.
