9087 - SUPPORT TO COUNCILS FOR REDUCING FOOD WASTE

Haylen, Jo to the Minister for the Environment, Minister for Local Government, and Minister for Heritage
  1. What support is the Government providing local councils to reduce food waste?
  2. Will the Government support the expansion of programs such as Penrith City Council's weekly organics collection to other local government areas?
Answer -

I am advised:

  1. The Government is supporting councils to reduce food waste through a $105.5 million investment under Waste Less, Recycle More initiative. It is supporting councils to address the problem through education, new collections to boost recycling, infrastructure to process the new supply and ensuring strong markets for the recycled produce.
  2. The Government has been supporting the expansion of kerbside collection services for food and garden waste, like Penrith's, since 2013.
