Haylen, Jo to the Minister for the Environment, Minister for Local Government, and Minister for Heritage
  1. Considering that over 500 million plastic straws are used daily worldwide, and that straws are one of the top ten items littering our marine environment, what is the Government doing to ban single-use straws?
  2. Have you met with The Boomerang Alliance, the Last Straw Campaign, or any other organisations in relation to this matter?
Answer -

I am advised:

  1. The Government is combating litter through the 10 cent container deposit scheme, Return and Earn, and the $30 million Litter Prevention Program. 
  2. The Government receives regular correspondence and meets with environmental groups such as these.
