  1. Is the practice of charging a pet license in a rental property legal?
  2. How many instances of such a license have been reported to NSW Fair Trading?
  3. Does the Government plan to make the practice of charging a pet license in a rental property legal in its response to the statutory review of the Residential Tenancies Act?
Answer -
  1. NSW Fair Trading is continuing to review the practice of imposing a pet license fee.
  2. From 1 January 2015 to date, Fair Trading has received seven reports about an additional charge being payable for keeping a pet.
  3. The Government is currently undertaking a statutory review of the Residential Tenancies Act 2010. Legislation will be introduced into Parliament in the near future that will include a range of measures to increase the rights of tenants living under residential tenancy agreements.
