6404 - SCHOOL STUDENT TRANSPORT SCHEME

Hoenig, Ron to the Minister for Transport, and Minister for the Hunter
  1. Will the Minister extend the School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS) to include those students who travel to and from school on the Airport Line and utilise Mascot and Green Square Railway Stations?
    1. If not, why not?
  2. Is the alternative mode of public transport by bus, which lengthens their trip by as much as 30 minutes, considered effective for students educational wellbeing?
Answer -

I am advised:

The School Student Transport Scheme aims to ensure all NSW school students who do not live near the school they attend have access to subsidised travel to and from school.

Mascot and Green Square Stations are privately owned and operated by Airport Link Company (ALC). The Government has subsidised the Station Access Fee for these stations for fare paying customers only. The Government has no plans to alter contractual obligations with the ALC at this time as it would place a heavy burden on taxpayers.
