5860 - PRISONER PROPERTY STORAGE

Hoenig, Ron to the Attorney General, and Minister for Justice

What action is the Department of Corrective Services taking to ensure that the property of prisoners which had previously been held in storage by the Prisoners' Aid Association and the property of future prisoners are preserved for when they are released, following the decision to cut funding to the Prisoners' Aid Association after 30 June 2014?

Answer -

(1) The Prisoners' Aid Association has met with the Attorney General, and Minister for Justice, and the Commissioner of Corrective Services, and arrangements have been made for the development, over the next three months, of a model and process for the future storage of inmate property.

Dependent on the outcome of this work, Corrective Services NSW will consider entering into a new arrangement with the Prisoners' Aid Association.
