1153 - WESTCONNEX

Hoenig, Ron to the Minister for the Environment, Minister for Heritage, and Assistant Minister for Planning

What steps has the Minister taken to ensure that the WestConnex Delivery Authority complies with all statutory requirements during the removal of asbestos from the Alexandria Tip site at 76 Burrows Road, Alexandria and to ensure the safety and protection of human health?

Answer -

I am advised as follows:

The transport and disposal of asbestos waste is being undertaken in accordance with clauses 77 to 81 of the Protection of the Environment Operations (Waste) Regulation 2014.

The WestConnex Delivery Authority has engaged experts to manage the site and is conducting air quality monitoring to provide reassurance to workers and residents.

The Environment Protection Authority will continue to conduct announced and unannounced site inspections to ensure, as per its statutory function, compliance with the regulation.
