That this House:

(1) Notes that Elsie's Refuge, Australia's oldest women's refuge, commemorates 47 years serving the Glebe community.

(2) Recognises the bravery and foresight of those women who founded the refuge in 1974 as a safe haven for women and children fleeing domestic violence.

(3) Notes almost one in five women in Australia have experienced domestic violence from a current or former partner, and domestic violence is the main reason why women seek specialist homelessness services and crisis accommodation.

(4) Commends the work of everyone including staff and community members who continue to keep Elsie's Refuge open to the people who need it most.
