I am advised:
(1) and (2) Not all trains, buses and ferries are accessible for customers using a mobility scooter. However, infrastructure and fleet that is upgraded or newly built since 2002 are required to meet the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport 2002 (DSAPT). The DSAPT outlines the minimum requirements such as the dimensions of an allocated space which is designed to accommodate mobility aids including motorised scooters.
As outlined in the Transport for NSW Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2018 -2022, during the design phase of infrastructure and fleet projects, engagement is undertaken that includes people with disability. This may include customers who use a mobility scooter.
Trip planning information to help customers plan their trip according to their mobility requirements is available on the Transport for NSW website.
(3) The current Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) requirement is for 80 per cent of public transport timetable services be delivered with a wheelchair accessible bus which allows electric scooters in line with Transport for NSW policy. Fare information is available on the Transport for NSW website.
