Community Recognition Statements

Community Recognition Statements

Each sitting day Members may give one minute Community Recognition Statements for a total of 30 minutes per day.

Community Recognition Statements may:

  • Congratulate or acknowledge the achievements of people or groups in the community
  • Recognise charity work, retirement or honours and awards
  • Express words of thanks or condolences.

Community Recognition Statements should not contain:

  • Matters of policy
  • Request for the Government or the House, or another body o take action or not
  • Criticisms or negative reflection on any person.

Community Recognition Statements may be taken between items of business with the leave of hte House and Members may not give consecutive statements.

Members may make Community Recognition Statements for a total of 30 minutes on:

  • Tuesdays, after Private Members' Statements (at approximately 1.15 pm);  
  • Wednesdays, after Government Business (at approximately 1.15 pm) ; and
  • Thursdays, after the Matter of Public Importance.

 

[Note: On a Thursday if the 30 minutes allocated to Community Recognition Statements has not elapsed by 4.30 pm, any may resume for the time remaining after the discussion on a petition signed by 10,000 or more persons.]
