Stand Down DCJ Executive and Launch a Full Inquiry into the Department of Communities and Justice

To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly, We, the undersigned petitioners, request the Legislative Assembly to call on the Government to stand down the Minister for Families and Communities, and Minister for Disability Inclusion and the executive team of the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) pending a full inquiry into DCJ. We bring these matters to the Assembly’s attention regarding the Minister’s failure to protect children and young people (CYP) under the Minister’s care from abuse, contrary to sections 43B and 316A of the Crimes Act 1900: • Aboriginal mothers are alienated from their children for up to 15 years. • A DCJ staff member listed on a victim's services document for the sexual assault of a child. • Deaths of multiple CYP in 2024 and 2025 caused by DCJ’s neglect. • Young people are being refused medical, education and therapeutic care. • 1196 of 5548 CYP in unlawful placements or unknown whereabouts under the Minister’s care are not being supported. • Carers and Families facing vexatious allegations at the hands of DCJ. • The Minister failing to fully inform Parliament regarding amendments to NSW legislation allowing for the removal of the Children's Guardian. Inaccurate Ministerial media communications regarding reportable conduct matters involving an Aboriginal child protection advocate. We ask the Assembly to urge the Government to consider the CYP, families and carers who find themselves in a system trafficking children for financial gain. Let NSW set the tone for the nation in putting an end to systemic abuse by the child protection system.
